It’s been a decent start to the season for QPR.
Mark Warburton has overseen three wins, a draw and two losses from the first six Championship games of the campaign, leaving his side sat in eighth-place before the international break began.
Eberechi Eze has been a star performer with two goals and an assist, while Jordan Hugill won the club’s Player of the Month award with five goals in five starts.
The R’s form has been good so far but there is plenty of room for improvement.
Let’s take a look at a couple of things Warburton must address in September…
Yoann Barbet’s form
A summer signing from Brentford, Yoann Barbet has endured a turbulent start to life at QPR and has already been on the receiving end of some harsh words from the R’s supporters on Twitter.
The Frenchman gave away a penalty against Swansea at a crucial time in the game – much to some supporters’ frustration – and his lethargic defending against Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup loss left the fans on social media fuming.
Warburton has kept faith with the 26-year-old despite his shortcomings, but if he continues to let the side down, his form must be addressed.
Continue to coach the 5-3-2
Last time out against Sheffield Wednesday, Warburton switched to a 5-3-2 formation and saw the system deliver an impressive 2-1 win thanks to Hugill’s double.
The on-loan West Ham man seemed to thrive in the formation, and the system also fits left-back Ryan Manning like a glove.
Nakhi Wells and Ilias Chair also impressed with 7.5 and 7.0 ratings from WhoScored respectively.
The system definitely has potential and suits a number of first-team stars; Warburton needs to ensure that it begins to fit the entire squad.
