A few hours ago, this was shaping up to be one of the most outrageous Deadline Days of all time, with a whole host of major Premier League clubs tipped to sign somebody before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.
But The Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce has some disappointing news for Liverpool fans and neutrals hoping to see some last minute mega-deals put Jim White in overdrive mode.
Indeed, the Merseyside publication are now reporting that the Reds are unlikely to seal any more signings before the cut-off this evening, despite starting Deadline Day with interest in Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk and Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar.
That means Liverpool will end the summer with just four signings – Andrew Robertson, Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dominic Solanke – none of whom address arguably the Reds’ biggest weakness at centre-back.
Accordingly, some Liverpool fans on Twitter are absolutely furious, describing the situation as ’embarrassing’ and a ‘shambles’.
