Liverpool’s season is off to a stunning opening third, and the Reds are firmly in the title hunt behind Manchester City.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has slowly but surely built a squad which now appears more than capable of mounting a serious challenge, and despite the form of City, many at Anfield will really fancy their chances as the season continues into the busy winter periods.
However, there is still a nagging feeling among us here at the Transfer Tavern that the Reds might just miss that little bit of magic when the going gets tough, and one player we think might be able to provide that spark is Villareal midfielder Pablo Fornals.
A relative unknown to many in England, Fornals has built quite the reputation for himself over in La Liga, and he is a mainstay of the yellow army in the centre of the park.
However, he is not just a midfielder who sits, he does like to create and get forward, and while Liverpool have lots of attacking talent in wide areas, they do lack that drive and creativity in the middle of the park at times.
Valued at just £25m by Transfermarkt, Fornals would represent something of a snip in today’s market, and he could well excel under the leadership of Klopp.
If Liverpool are serious about competing on all fronts, then adding a player with the quality of Fornals might be just the ticket for the Anfield club as we head into January.
Liverpool fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
